October 2025
At Shoreview Veterinary, we love keeping our clients informed and inspired about ways we can care for pets — and the incredible programs we’re proud to support. In this edition, we’ll get to know more about the rescues we support through The Shoreview Community Fund, Team Cat Rescue and Last Litter Foster & Rehome, and the lifesaving initiatives to which they are dedicated. Plus, with Halloween just around the corner, we’ll provide pet-friendly tips to keep your furry friends safe and happy during all the spooky festivities! 🎃👻
At Shoreview Veterinary, we’re proud to partner with Team Cat Rescue, a volunteer-run organization dedicated to saving cats in need across the Greater Toronto Area. We started our partnership with TCR when Dr. Skinner owned Kew Beach Animal Hospital, and we are thrilled to reconnect at Shoreview Veterinary. Through this partnership, we help ensure that every cat receives the medical care they need — from spaying and neutering, vaccinations and wellness checks, to urgent care and surgical procedures — before finding their forever homes.
Team Cat Rescue provides safe foster homes for cats rescued from the streets, shelters, or difficult situations, and we support their mission by offering veterinary services to keep these cats healthy and happy. By working together, we’re helping give cats a second chance at life, reducing overpopulation, and connecting loving families with their purr-fect companions.
Whether it’s through fostering, adoption, or supporting their efforts, we’re thrilled to play a role in making a real difference in the lives of cats across Toronto. Fun Fact: Four of the furry members of our Shoreview family owe their second chance to Team Cat Rescue!
If you know someone looking for a new feline family member, keep Ulyo in mind! We recently spayed this sweet girl, and she is now ready for her forever home. Contact Team Cat Rescue for more information!
Unexpected litters can be overwhelming, but they don’t have to be stressful. That’s where Last Litter Foster & Rehome comes in — and we’re proud to be a partner. Through this program, we ensure that mom is spayed to prevent future litters, while her puppies are placed in loving foster homes until they’re ready for adoption. From there, each little one is matched with a safe, caring forever family. It’s a win-win: moms get a healthier, happier future, babies get the best start in life, and together, we help reduce pet overpopulation on a much larger scale. By supporting programs like this, we can make a real difference for pets — and for the people who love them.
Not only do they provide this impactful program to reduce overpopulation and unwanted litters, but they also take in dogs of all ages who are in need of a new start.
Are you looking to add a new addition to your family this Fall? These puppies (and many more) are now available! Contact Last Litter for more information!
Both of these organizations can not meet their goals without support from the community.
Here’s how you can help:
1. Foster a Pet
Opening your home to a foster cat, kitten, puppy, or dog gives them a safe, loving environment until they’re ready for adoption. Fostering is one of the most direct ways to make a difference.
2. Adopt
Give a forever home to a rescued pet. Adoption not only changes a pet’s life, it frees up foster spaces for others in need.
3. Donate
Financial contributions help cover veterinary care, spaying/neutering, food, and supplies. Every dollar goes directly to supporting the animals.
4. Volunteer Your Time
Assist with fostering, adoption events, transportation, or administrative support. Volunteers are the heart of these organizations.
5. Spread the Word
Share adoptable pets, fundraisers, or programs on social media, or talk to friends and family about supporting rescue efforts.
6. Provide Supplies
Donate blankets, toys, food, litter, or other supplies. Check each organization’s website for a current wish list. We will happily accept donations of new and gently used goods on the rescue’s behalf.
7. Participate in Fundraising Events
Attend or support charity events, auctions, or campaigns that raise money for rescued animals.
8. Advocate & Educate
Promote responsible pet ownership, including spaying/neutering, and educate others about the importance of supporting rescue programs.
Keep Your Pets Safe This Halloween 🍬
Halloween is all about thrills and chills, but for your pets, it doesn’t have to cause a fright. Here’s how to make this Halloween your pet’s favourite one yet.
- Keep candy out of reach – Chocolate, xylitol, and other sweets are toxic to pets.
- Avoid decorations pets can chew – Candles, glow sticks, and small decorations can be dangerous if ingested. If your favourite decoration could be mistaken for a beloved chew toy, consider placing them outside or out of reach of your pets.
- Stick to pet-safe costumes – If dressing your pet, ensure it’s comfortable, non-restrictive, and doesn’t cover their eyes or mouth. Practice wearing the costume in short increments in the weeks leading up to Halloween so that your pet can acclimate ahead of time.
- ID is important – Make sure pets have up-to-date collars, tags, and microchips in case they get spooked and escape.
- Create a safe space – Loud noises and doorbell traffic can stress pets. Set up a quiet room with food, water, and their bed if your pets get nervous with the increase in excitement and activity.
- Watch your doors – Guests and trick-or-treaters can accidentally let pets slip outside.
- Be mindful of treats for pets – Only offer pet-safe treats and avoid human candy.
- Supervise interactions – Not all pets enjoy being handled by strangers, even if dressed in cute costumes.
- Plan for the outdoors – If pets are outside, ensure they’re secure and protected from spooky distractions.
- Check for hazards afterward – Candy wrappers, fake cobwebs, and small decorations left behind can be harmful if chewed or swallowed.
Does your pet have a favourite costume? Send your photos to us! They may be featured on our social media platforms later this month! Stay tuned 👀
